New Beardie

I am new to the board and know you guys have probably been asked this over a hundred times but what is the best substrate to use? The place I got my boy from use strictly bark, then another shop told me to use crushed walnuts, another pool sand, another bed a beast, etc. The more people I talk to the more I am confused! Please give opinions. He is about 41/2 months old and I have always had him on the "fake" grass but he is getting a new and larger home and I want to only get the safest substrate for him that I can.

Thank you

Hi
i would not use crushed walnuts to sharp and no bark ,bark can cause impaction !!
also no calsium sand that also can cause impaction.
those 3 type r realy bad.
i use a type of wasched playsand for 4 years now and never got problems .
so if you wanan use a sand typ r lose substrate then use a wasched playsand typ, heated and silica free.
look if the grains r abit rounded and not sharp.
also some people use bran ,but i not liked it becuase it whas abit dusty and it mold if you use waterin a waterbowl.

Probably the safest is duck shelf liner....butcher paper, newspaper, paper toweling is safe as well.....bulk wheat bran is also safe....washed screened playsand is ok as well.....bark, walnut shells are no no's....don't know what kind of sand pool sand is so I can't say about that.....no calcisand as it clumps....no wood chips....I wouldn't use the bed a beast either personally....
