Ball pythons in books

DeltaWoods Feb 27, 2004 02:49 PM

I have to read this book called Things Fall Apart for my AP Lit class about a Southern Nigerian tribe called Umuofia. This tribe worships the ball python as a type of God or spirit. No one is allowed to kill or harm the snakes in anyway. Just thought it was pretty interesting. Have a good day.

The book is alright. It is an easy read and about 200 pages. You could get it at any book store i would think.

are there ball pythons in Nigeria?..........even.......

DeltaWoods Feb 27, 2004 10:56 PM

Yes...

Distribution: This species occurs in the sub-Sahel region of Africa, ranging across central Africa from Uganda to Nigeria, continuing west to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. Most specimens in US collection have come from Togo, Benin, and Ghana.

I got that from the VPI website so I am assuming it is correct.

I'm not sure, but I think I heard that somewhere not too long ago.

I use ball pythons for educational purposes at a zoo, and I was told ball pythons are called royal pythons because of their unique and beautiful patterns. One of my coworkers would tell this to people all the time. I just remember hearing it from him a lot. I'm sure theres more to that story, but since I never told it, I can't remember it right now.
