Moving on from Ball pythons?

cactuskent Feb 27, 2004 03:26 PM

I've Kept Balls/royals for quite a long time now, and feel its time to add something to the collection. I was originally considering 100% het royals but now want to move away from them. I was then going to go for a large blue tongue(meruake/northern) but aquiring those in England is nearly impossible.
I'm open to suggestions, I just want something impressive and nice, of a decent size and..I'll leave the rest up to you. thanks

Are you a Python person or do you like Boas? Because Hogg Island Boas are really nice and don't get much bigger than a BP. Also, another thought when I read your post was a Jungle Carpet Python, or something of that nature. Although they get significantly bigger than BP's. Were you looking to stick to snakes? If not, I've always liked Bearded Dragons myself or perhaps Leaf-Tail Geckos for something more unique. Both which get nice size(Leaf-Tails depending on the subspecies, some stay small). If it's eye candy your looking for, I always thought Veiled and Panther Chameleons were awesome, but their care is a bit more involved than a BP. Basically, there are alot of things out there for you to try. I don't know which of these you can or can't get in the UK, but look around and see what's out there. See what makes your heart pound and your jaw drop. Perhaps that is the right choice.

thanks for your tips, I'm totally open minded to anything, I've thought about hogg islands a lot and they tempt me, jungle carpets are also very nice but I think I want something with a little more girth, I'm strongly considering a red blood python, thoughts?

I don't have any idea what you can or can't find in the UK but one of my favorites is a Python curtus/Black blood/Sumatran Short tailed python. They are the smaller and mellower of the bloods.

My next favorite is my Brazilian Rainbow Boa. She is strikingly beautiful, eats very well and isnt monster huge.
