Corn "sneezing" ?

dmac77 Feb 27, 2004 04:47 PM

I've got a ghost corn that is about a year old. He's been doing great so far, and I've had him for about three months now. I've got a growing concern, though.

Every once in a while I hear something coming from him that sounds sort of like a dry sneeze. It isn't ahiss... it's more of a puff out of his nose. I've observed him closely and don't see any kind of mucus around his nostrils or anything. I keep a close eye on the temp and humidity levels in his enclosure as well, and they are both good (83-88 day temp and avg humidity of 65-70%). The substrate I'm using is a mixture of Jungle Floor soil and orchid bark, and I clean it once a month. The "sneezes" seem to happen more frequently when he is just getting ready to shed or has just finished shedding. He hasn't shown any signs of difficult breathing, and he's eating like a champ, so I doubt he's sick.

I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas about this or if it was a normal thing for corns to do? Anyway, thanks for the help.

David

Sounds to me like the start of a resp. infection. Sneezing of any kind isn't normal for a snake. Also I think the humidity is to high. I just keep water bowls in my corns enclosures and only mist they when they are going into shedding.
Just my opinion :0)
