shedding?! help please

dmlove Feb 27, 2004 05:14 PM

My balll has not had a complete shed in a long time. He only sheds parts at a time

He is about 3 ft long, the humidity is about 60, and temps go up to 85 one one side, but hotter on the ground (undertank heater), about 95--- i mean he has not had a COMPLETE shed, meaning he sheds parts off at a time and not the whole thing at once. His last shed was a while ago, and that wasnt a complete shed also. Hope this helps.

Are you saying he shed a while ago and still has dead skin from that shed stuck to him? or are you saying he is just not having good sheds, but you have dealt with the old skin but want to fix it for future?
If he still has retained shed you need to get it off. I would shut him in a sterilite tub (with air holes) with a warmish, damp towel for him to rub through. Putting him back in his enclosure on the warmth will help him for a while. Let him sit half an hour or an hour and then take him out and let him run through the towel to get off the bits.
To prevent future troubles I put a himid hide in with my BPs. Damp moss in a tub with a hole in the lid. Keep the moss (long fiber...spaghnum) damp. Sometimes you will have to put the snake into the hide when it is opaque to give it the hint.

Haven't we warned you about tampering with the structure of a chaotic system?

do you increase the humidity when he is sheding??
60% is good for the everyday life, but during shed you should increase it to around 80%, or give him a humid hide.
