Incubation temps

timdog Jun 10, 2003 01:58 AM

Yesterday i found a skunk predating a snapper nest. Probly around twenty eggs were destroyed but 11 made it. The skunk seemed to be waiting in the forest for me to leave and with all the yolk on the ground i figured the eggs didnt stand a chance. I have them in slightly damp vermiculite mixed with sphagnum moss and the temp is about 81 degrees.
Just wonderin if my temps are correct and about how long should I expect for incubation. Humidity is around 80 to 90% is that good?
I've hatched painted turtles this way...are snappers any different? All babies will be released back to the area I found them. Thank you for your info.
Tim
