crix passing on parasites

beardiedragon Feb 27, 2004 08:26 PM

I know there are some things that crix pass on and some can be deadly (crix that have eaten moldy feed have killed BD's). But aren't some parasites reptile specific? Crix could only pass them on by carrying them on the outside right? What about the vommon stuff, coccidia, giardia, hooks, pins... Someone with more knowledge than me want to comment on this please?

I think the crix can be carriers of some parasites and not have it necessarily effect them.

Going of what is written in Geogi's, coccidia and pinworms have a direct lifecycle - they would only be found on the outside of the animal or in the intestine as they are passing through (ie the cricket eats the egg and poops it out w/o altering it, he would have to pick up the egg from a reptile who is infected). I believe that hooks are in the same catagory but don't have my text here at work w/ me to look it up. I can't remember the life cycle of giardia off hand.

Perhaps someone else can give that info or I will look it up when I get back home.
