Different Species of frogs...

lazandlouie Feb 27, 2004 08:30 PM

I'm new to frogs and interested in them. I was just wondering if different species of frogs could be put together in a 50 gallon aquarium, perhaps dart frogs with a red eyed tree frog and waxy monkey tree frog? if not why and are there any groups of frogs that can?

There are very few frogs that require the same care (temperature, humidity, cage setup, food) and will be safe around one another if they are kept in the same cage. Red-eyed tree frogs and dart frogs can be kept in pretty much identical conditions except for one critical thing: feeder insect size, and because of that it is difficult to keep them together. Waxies require low humidity and are one of the few frog species that do best when they are provided with a basking site. They also would probably attempt to eat the dart frogs. In general it's best not to mix species, for more reasons why with better explainations see an article that I wrote at www.amphibiancare.com/frogs/articles/communitytank.html Good luck,
