Have you tried turtle pellets which are available at most pet stores? Turtles usually love them. You could also try some dried shrimp to get the turtle to start eating, although it should be used sparingly as a treat after your turtle starts eating. Good luck!

hello,

i have my RES since summer of '03. it was about the size of a silver dollar now it is 3-1/4 inches. what kind of set-up is your turtle in? being 1-2 yrs it should be in a 20 gallon or bigger tank. "Tiny"my RES) started off in a 10 gallon the i had to get a bigger tank. It is in a 29gln now. I have a few fish in there to see if it would eat them but they are too fast. i have been feeding "tiny" turtle pellets and earth worms since i got it. the ideal water temp has to be 76-80F. mine runs between 76-78. if it's too cold then like any turtle it won't eat. trust me your turtle will eat the pellets or the worms. if it doesn't then you need to it to a vet.
good luck

Please do some research on your turtle. You have to have
the correct temps to make your turtle want to eat. Also,
what you listed that you have tried to feed it isn't what
it should be eating.

Buy some Reptomin turtles sticks at the petshop and soak
them until soft and then feed them to him. Also, you
can try some canned dog food (chicken flavor they seem to
like). Don't feed the dog food as his main food but only
until he starts eating, then he will most likely accept the
pellets which can be the staple.

The other poster mentioned that his turtle has gone from
silver dollar size to 3.5" in only a few months. This is
too much growth and is not healthy. Turtles have long
life spans and growth should be slow. For instance, my
babies are now 4.5 yrs old and are 4.5" long. They still grew
a little too fast because as many others, I wanted to overfeed
them as babies.

Good luck

ok I'm presuming that you have recently fed your turtle some guppies. I did this to my ole 2.5 yr old softshell gustoff, rest his soul. I didn't realize that some guppies I fed them had parasites, and I fed them to my softshell and my baby RES's. My softshell, Gustoff, died before I could catch the infection. However I was able to get my RES's back to health. I'd really reccomend taking them to the vet, but if you don't have the money (as I, an average poor college student didnt), you can go down to the pet store and get stuff called worm guard. Mix it with water and feed it to them thru droppers...I did this to my REs and he survived. Only about $5 or so. Hope he gets better. -Chris
