Just A Few More Questions Before I Invest

monocledcobra Feb 27, 2004 09:18 PM

stingeragent posted a picture of a cage he wanted to know, was ok to use for a jungle carpet. ***scroll down in the threads to find it*** If I built something like that....would the way he has it set-up be ok? If I moved the heat light out of the cage? Or can someone send me a picture of their idea of an ideal JCP set-up? Also, what is everyone's opinion on the whole humidity issue? I read Anthony Caponetto's care sheet, http://www.acreptiles.com/carpet_python_care.htm and he says he doesn't have very high humidity overall. Only at certain times. Sorry for making it long. I'm just doing my homework on htem before I buy one.

thanks from
MC

You'd be better off buying a plastic cage like a Vision. They are specificaly made for reptiles and work great, they will also last way longer than any wood cage. If you buy a hatchling you could keep it in a 60quart Sterelite tub for the first year then move it into a Vision 322, which is the perfect cage for an adult. I would forget all about using light for heat and just buy heat tape to put under the cage. If you want light in the cage for viewing then get a florecent fixture and put it in the light shroud or even in the cage. As for humidity, I agree with Anthony, I have a water bowl over the heat tape and thats about it. If I see the snake start to look like it will shed then I will mist the cage twice a day until the shed to ensure it all comes off clean. Hope I helped

This brings a question to my mind. If you have heat tape instead of a light, won't that encourage the snake to stay on the ground and not ever climb up, where they would normally get heat from?

My carpets acctually typically stay off the part of the cage with the heat tape under it. They still love to climb and move around to all different spots. If it was true it would also mean that the snake would just stay under the light and not move around. The snake will move around to different parts to either cool or warm it's body. I just find heat tape to be cheaper, safer and easier to work with. Good Luck

Hey, where can I get some heat tape? Or are you referring to those undertank heater things made by like zoomed.
