newkid Feb 27, 2004 10:45 PM

I bought 30 mealworms tonight how long will they keep in a 2.5 gallon aguarium until they morph into beetles?

1 inch mealies take like 1 month to turn into beetles. But longer ones take less.

If the mealworms are large, they could pupate in 2-3 weeks. Again this could happen in one week or less. If you don't want them to pupate keep them in a cooler location. I have had no luck with placing them in the fridge, they always die and become a watery mess for me. I was trying to produce beetles from the first 3000 I bought, thought it would never happen, but when they start pupating they all start going fast. It took a little while, but now I have 4 small tubs with a nice sustainable colony. Too bad our only gecko is not eating but maybe once a week right now.
