Leaping into the world of BT's

Jarrok Feb 27, 2004 11:53 PM

I've been keeping herps for nearly 10 years now...and I've never kept any Skinks, let alone a Blue-Tongue...but this week I finally broke down and ordered one from a long-time friend of mine in Ohio.

I've read all of the online resources I could cram into my head, as well as all of the Blue-Tongue books I could find at the local herp store (of which I am an employee).

I've got my enclosure all set up, and despite all the reading I've done...I'd feel a lot more secure with replies from real people.

How does this sound:

50 Gallon Terrarium w/ screen lid - 36x18x18
100 watt basking spot lamp
24" Flourescent Fixture with Repti-Glo 5.0
4-5 inches of cypress mulch substrate
PVC hide tube buried 4/5 into substrate on mild side
moist under-log spot (with moss) in middle

80-85 degrees hot side, 65-70 degrees mild side
105 degree basking spot
60% relative humidity

And as far as diet is concerned...what makes the best veggie mixes...and do baby foods work well? (chicken, turkey, peaches, carrots etc etc)
