poop and itching

wildman Feb 28, 2004 04:11 AM

ok so i recently bought a veiled and i just had a couple of queries if anyone could take the time to answer my questions that would be great!!!
1.my cham when pooping first excretes a slimmy kind of sac with white stuff inside which is soft, the white stuff looks like an intestine of a human, then poops as normal is this normal???

2.my cham recently when going to step with its back legs seems to try and itch the underside of its foot on a branch or my finger..is this normal??

3. yestoday and today i had my cham in one hand and he went onto my other hand and then kind of pushed her head into my hand almost like a nuzzle...he didnt hiss or anything and showed no stress colors...what is this all about??

4.if my cham feels comfortable enough to poop on me...lol once on my shoulder and once while sitting on my arm does this show a positive sign of her being comfortable with me or is she scared??

i have handled her for about 20 min to 45 min a day and she ate about 25 crickets the first day she was settling in she should be comfortable but i am just making sure with people that know more than me and can help me out

thanks for all your responses
still trying to think of a good name for her any suggestions welcome...

You don't say how old she is. That's important.

1> The feces you derscribe is not uncommon, especially after superworms or wax worms. It's less comment after crix.

2> Check the feet regularly for any signs of foot problems. It could be nothing or it could signal a problem.

3> I have no idea what the "nuzzling" is.

4> Many animals defecate when scared. In fact, the number of defecations/minute is a standard measure of emotionality in lab rats. It certainly does not mean that she's comfortable being handled.

5> There is NEVER a good reason to handle any cham that much. If you want a herpo to handle, get a beardie. Chams must be left alone.

6> Depending on her age and reproductive status, 25 crix a day is WAY TOO MUCH. It will cause hyperovulation, dystocia, and death. Depending on the stage of oogenesis they should be kept on varying degrees of food restriction.
