Cold Hardiness

bast Jun 10, 2003 06:11 AM

Hello,

I'm interested in the cold hardiness/hibernation habits of the eastern collarded and the leopard lizard. I'm looking for a new breeding project. I have large outdoor pens. I am located in southeastern MA near Cape Cod. I am in USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 6/7. This is the same zone as much of the range of these two species. Any other aspects of captive care and breeding would be apprciated also.

Thank you,

Brian

PS: The photo below is one of my 15X6 foot pens.

As to your questions. I keep some collareds outside, but I don't try to overwinter them, and I don't put them outside, unil the night-time temps are well over the mid 50's. I have a 8 X 9 pen, that is heavily planting, and has some insect drawing flowers in it. I would worry about escapees, with those low sides. I realize you have a lid, but it would be nearly impossible to lift that lid, and not have a lizard bolt out.

Keep us posted on your progress, or decisions. There is lots of information to be found....Scroll down, or do a search on this site for "care." I just posted a decent, care sheet, and others have provided some incredible links that helped the best of us get started.

Thanks
