Sick panther (captive captive cont)

caine Feb 28, 2004 07:01 AM

Thanks to the person who suggested the vet (what a genius I hadn't thought of that one). I love it when people are constructive.

What i did was crank up his temperature remove all the substrate from his viv and lower his humidity, and made sure he had plenty of water to drink. He already seems alot better the glazing on his eyes is no longer there (I washed it out yesterday) and hes eaten a cricket. I think it may have been stress as we have only just got him a few days ago.

thanks for your comments

and to genius
I'm still taking him to the vet ****

You did the right thing, by making changes to his set-up.
Most people overlook that. When they notice that their cham
may be sick, they run right to the vet and do not check the
set-up in the enclosure. It is a fact, that inproper husbandry
is the leading cause of chameleon death. I would keep a very
close eye on him for a few days. You may or maynot need to take
him to the vet, most of the time changing things such as humidity
etc. do the trick. What kind of chameleon do you have?

It's funny how you come here and post a question and when you get advice you get smart. If your so intelligent why didn't you take it to the vet in the first place? If telling you to have a check up done isn't constructive then you have personal issues to deal with.
If i didn't have the sense to know if 2 captive bred animals can breed or not i wouldn't be a smart A$$.
Secondly, i reccommended the vet since your apparently new at chameleon keeping or you wouldn't ask basic questions. That eye infection may be a syptom of something a little more serious.
You could be describing it wrong on here and get bad info. It shouldn't break you since a vet check isn't expensive.
Anyhow since he miraculously recovered i await your next post stating how he is worse than before.
Signed,
The Genius

I agree. There was no reason to get snippy. We all know too well how many newbie posters never think of taking a cham to the vet or who postpone it so long that it becomes a moot point. if this guy was a knowledgeable keeper he wouldn't have had a substrate in the cage, would have been hydrating heavily from the start, and would have had the temps correct. I'm with you, "genius."
