May be developing eye infection

JethroTull1969 Feb 28, 2004 10:01 AM

My juvenille veiled has been occasionaly rubbing his eye on the vine or branch that he stands on. he grinds it into the branch and it sort of "pops out of place" in a sense and his eye bulges around in its socket for a few seconds before it pops back to normal. Im guessing that this could be the start of an eye infection- he has full movement of the eye and there is no puss or film or any junk in it- what can i do to prevent an infection? is there something i can gutload my crickets with that helps him fight infection? note that he does this sparsley, maybe once, possibly twice a week, but then again I only SEE him do it that often. any advice?

That's a normal part of cham eye-cleaning behavior. But you should be misting him at least 5-10 minutes at a time with hot water in the mister to facilitate eye washing. That's the best thing you can do for him. And make sure the branches are cleaned regularly.

I have the same problem with my juvy veiled. I got some antibiotics from the vet and have been flushing his eyes twice daily apart from his mistings. I feel your pain, and get him checked. Gut load with some kale, or something similar.
