Jacksons Chameleon Open Mouth

JacksonsChamKeep Feb 28, 2004 12:43 PM

My Jacksons Chameleon sits there with his mouth wide open. It is not because he is too hot, because he does it in the shade even when it is cool. He is also not dehydrated, so I cannot figure out why he does this. It is not a constant thing, and he only does it once in a while. Is this normal?

"Once in a while: is normal. But if he's doing it many hours/day and especially if you notice a mucous discharge, it might be URI and he needs a vet ASAP.

My veiled cham does this a lot when he is shedding, to break the skin around his mouth. He will do it several times a day for a few days before/during shedding.
If he is shedding/about to shed then i would think he was trying to break the skin, if he simply does it all the time, then listen to Dr. Pollak
