Can crushed walnut shells be used as a substrate for W. Hogs?

I would think it would be hard on them considering they like to burrow ALOT. I use aspen in mine and he is constantly making tunnels, plus aspen holds the tunnel shape better. I feed in a diferent container.

And replying to your other post about how hard it is to get them to take F/T mice.

I have had mine about 1 month now, attempted to feed 4 times, yet he has only ate once for me. Other times when I go to check on him he puffs up (little cobra, lol) and hisses, plus he has musked the crap outta the bowl, lol. I have heard of other W.hognose being little pigs. It probably varies from snake to snake.

thank you for your reply i use the crushed walnut shells for my kenyan sand boa and right now I have some walnut shells to use up. I'm thinking of eventually switching to aspen for them.

I do like aspen, especially since hognoses have burrow fidelity, meaning they like to return to burrows they have already dug. Aspen is best for this.

I use this for my kenyans and when my little hogs get bigger will put them in it too. It is a looser pelleted paper bedding. That or even rabbit pellets??
