Yeah I would buy it to get it away from such a small tank. Put it in your big 55 gallon. Was it being kept in the ten gallon?? It needs WAAAY much more space than what it is being kept in!!

If anything, buy it to get it out of that tiny aquarium! Poor thing, that's like a human living in a closet!

They can live up to 10 years if kept in good conditions. Maybe if you rescue him he'll have a good chance!

what do i put in the tank bed a best or what

kephy Feb 28, 2004 07:52 PM

I think the best substrates are not the kinds you get at the pet store. My preference is rubber shelf-liner that you can buy at walmart. It's easy to spot clean, and there is zero risk of impaction like there can be with certain sands and woodchip type substrates. It's not as pretty, but it's safe and clean.

other things you'll want are a basking log or rock, and a hide spot. The basking spot should be 105-115 degrees, and the cooler side of the tank should be kept around 85 (no way this could have been achieved in a 10 gallon.) You'll need a UVB light, heat lights, proper supplements, etc. If you have more questions you've come to the right place.

I keep my dragons on either play sand you can get at Home Depot or Paper towel. I am using both as I have a sick dragon on paper towel. Just read the past posts and you can learn a lot about what to put in the tank.

I use play sand (Home Depot)in some tanks and duck shelf liner(Wal-Mart)in others. A couple of thick sticks peeled and baked at 250 for 2 hours, a couple of smooth river rocks (boiled), as the basking spot. On the cool side a flower pot saucer makes a dish for rep-cal pellets, and wet vegetables. On some but not all tanks there is also a hide on the cool side.

yes it would be great to rescue that poor animal. yes it would be great to have a new beardie companion. Make sure he is not going from the frying pan into the fire. You obviosly care about animals and are looking for info before jumping into things (apparently more so than the person you are getting it from). If this person did not take proper care of this beardie you may be in for some vet bills. be prepared for that. You will need the proper setup. the tank, heat, UV Light is probably very important at this point for the poor Beardie, calcium, good food, cage furnature, a fecal from the vet... be prepared to invest in this poor guy. he is a rescue animal.

no matter how much better off he will be with you there is also the matter of the stress of moving. that needs to be minimized so learn a lot real fast. Read a lot of care sheets first, PLEASE. Make sure you can make the commitment in time to keep this guy the way he should be.

G-D bless you for rescuing the poor little guy. Good luck.

Do lots of research, cuz if you rescue this poor guy he'll be counting on you.

A great place to start reading is www.beautifuldragons.com/, but don't stop there. You can never read too many caresheets. There are lots of different opinions on the best way to care for these guys, so you must use your newly gained knowledge and best judgement, and always err on the side of caution. If it seems odd, never hesitate to ask! There are a lot of caring and knowledgable people on this forum who will gladly help you out!

Good luck.
