Hello-
Not incredibly rare. There are many Egyptians out there that may or may not be Microlepis.
The determining factors are very vague and have many determining factors.
Do you have a picture of the uro.
How large is it?

I know she is a microlepis b/c she is six years old and only 11 inches long. Sry no photo.
That would be somewhat of a determining factor.
however there are Microlepis that are upwards of 20" long.
I have one that is 16" and still growing.
Size is not a total determining factor.
Size is more a factor of genetics and environment.
Microlepis's are also determined by Color, body posture, Tail spine description, and the appearance of patterns in the color.
Here is an example of a reported Microlepis.
As you can see it is large I think 20" . This is not mine, i requested a picture of Microlepis to compare the differences between mine and theirs.
Good luck with your Uro.
