lump- need help fast-

meretseger Jun 10, 2003 07:54 AM

I was handling my little blood today and I noticed a hard lump on the bottom side about half an inch in front of the cloaca. It's about the size of a big grape. It's actually visible. Could this be constipation? She hasn't 'gone' since I got her a month and a half ago, but from previous threads I understood this wasn't a cause for worry. I've never had a constipated snake before. Could anyone recommend a course of action?
As a note, she HATES being in water. Goes ballistic. I've just been putting her in a warm wet towel, but it hasn't done the trick.
Thanks for any replies, I'm pretty worried!
I can go to the vet if it's needed.

Probably just poop. Soak her in warm shallow water, she hates it, but it may be necessary

Ok, I'll break out the welding gloves ^_^;... I'll let you know if it works.

If it's anything like my burm, the lump could be poop or urates, and becomes more pronounced when it's ready to come out--A tub of warm (not hot) water works wonders. My burm hates it too, but he thrashes about frantically for a couple minutes then he sits still for a moment, and out come the nasties, the whole enchilada--pee, urates, and poop usually. ugh, it's gross but good to get it out I think! (He's getting to such a size--at almost 7 feet, his waste actually clogged the toilet!)

The snake had a massive back up, and x-rays confirmed that she acutally had some big lumps of very hardened urates. The vets palpitated them out (wish I could have done that and saved the $$$). The one suprise is that I was pretty sure she was a SHE based on tail shape and what the seller said. But the tail shape changed quite a bit when he was all 'cleaned out', and one of the vets also popped him. He's a HIM. Great.
My female borneo turned out to be a male red ^o^; . What am I going to name him? Carmilla was so pretty!
He's on a twice a day soaking regimen now, for a while.

I told the vet techs that the snake was a bit nervous, and she was hissing a bit because she was scared. So they pretty much treated her like a bushmaster, at one point the lady had her around the neck with one hand without supporting her and she was thrashing around! She's not a mean snake, why are they working there if they're afraid of a little animal like that? They could have hurt her. I never saw the actual vet handle the snake, she was only in the room for 30 seconds to explain the x-rays.
I really need a new vet... but these guys are the only AARAV members in central Ohio. What to do?
