Hello, my name is Stephen Barger. I am currently in the process of opening a petshop in Eastern Va. This is not an ad, and I apologize if it comes out this way.
I am looking for design plans, or ideas for using melanime (SP?) to make a shelf type unit for multiple snake enclosures.
This is the idea I am having, if you have any comments or questions please chip in!
I am thinking of making a shelf type setup with Melanime (think of bookcase design).
I would then install a sliding glass door (double, overlap in middle) in the front. I may divide some units in the middle, so if you open one glass door you get one side, if you open the other you get the other side.
Each "unit" (shelf)would have its own set of doors, so if I open the second shelf, the top and bottom would still be secure.
It would resemble a stack of Vision Cages in a way, except I would custum build this in my store.
I would probably use jewelry case style locks to secure the animals from wandering hands.
Another idea I had, that I have never seen done, would be to do a setup simular to a TV/DVD shelf. You know, when they have the glass doors that have the magnets that hold them shut.
I was thinking that if I put a wood frame (1x2s or trim) all the way around the glass, somehow secured, I could drill holes for the hinges to make them more secure, and then have locks installed in the middle to secure each unit.
I am still planing this out, and would probably do at least one test unit for each setup before I proceeded with that plan, to make sure its feasable.
ANY suggestions/thoughts would be appreciated.
Stephen Barger
