How would you divide the tank space for an aquatic monitor? I'm thinking half water and half land. But should i divide the tank lengthwise or breadthwise?

What species? actually it does not matter. There are no aquatic monitors. There are rapairian or mesic monitors, that means they live in assoiation with water. I do not believe any part of a monitors exsistance is dependant on being in water, just the products of water, food etc.
Your actual question is entirely dependant on you and your preferences. Do it anyway thats handy to you, if you do not like it, change it. Good luck FR
