03 hatchlings...isn't there a better way to age them....

IcedGoddess Feb 29, 2004 12:54 PM

I have 9--2003 hatchlings. Some were hatched in may, and are eating hoppers. Some were hatched mid-summer and are eating large pinks (they could probably go to fuzzies, but I have a ton of large pinks left). And one was hatched late summer and is just starting larger pinks, not quite ready for fuzzies yet.

These are all 03's. So whenever someone says "my 03", it's impossible to know if it's a may or august 03, and that can make a really big difference!

I don't really have a question, just a point, that maybe when we're looking for help or advice, we should say "spring 03" or "summer 03" etc....

Just a thought I had while I was feeding everyone today

I agree. I have a late 03 and obviously he is a monster compaired to when I got him so the difference between him and an early 03 has to be huge.

I feel your pain..LoL...I have many 03 corns too and there is such a difference in size between all of them. I think it has less to do with feeding and more to do with genes that control faster vs. slower growth. I posted an inquiry sometime last year about whether or not corns tend to grow slower and become smaller as adults if they're in the 2nd clutch of double clutching. Makes sense since the female may not always recover properly to provide the essential nutrients to her eggs. Although, there are always exceptions and I'd imagine its as variable as anything else in corns. My.02$
