Slight problem here..

newkid Feb 29, 2004 12:54 PM

I just looked at a picture in the Lizard A to Z book of leopard gecks eating in a dish of mealworms. Between my own ignorance and the Pet Store (go figure), Im pretty sure at this point that I have giant mealworms. I know that Leo ate 2 crickets and one mealworm the other night but he didnt eat lastnight. Hes going to the bathroom daily which all seems fine, just not sure that he will go for another one of these giant mealworms. What do I do with 30 of these worms? Cut them up, put in a dish with a calc dust?? (say just a cpl a night)?

Hes about 4" from nose to tip of tail. Body about as big around as one of my fingers.

Yah the supers are gonna be to big. You may want to talk to the petstore. But if you really wanted to you could cut them in half but they stop moving.

I bought them on way home from a trip. Im stuck with them. Should I cut them and put in a dish? Also I have phos free calcium in a dish in tank 24/7 do I dust mealworms with that or the leopard gecko dust vitamin supplement?

Dedalus Feb 29, 2004 01:59 PM

Yah dust them to, the gecko will lick up the calcium if it needs more than what it's getting from the worms. Try and pick up some meal worms and pin head crix soon it will just make it easier.

Would you just cut cpl of these up a day or what? I dont want a beetle farm happening. I only have one enclosure right now to keep feeders.. any suggestions as far as that goes?

Maybe set the large ones free hehe? Call it there lucky day =D

Dedalus Feb 29, 2004 02:19 PM

Well I would have bought another feeder tank and just let the supers multiply, by the time your gecko is big enouhg to eat them you'll have enough to feed him for free for months on end. But if you don't have a feeder tank just try cutting them up and see if it works out well.
