Bloodline To Bloodline Mix it up???OPINIONS

Jbuggs20 Feb 29, 2004 01:14 PM

I noticed there are a few bloodlines Tremper/Rainwater/../../etc.... Now would mix breeding the bloodlines be better? Or is trying to keep the bloodlines together and not mixing better, but then would that be almost in breeding? Opinions?

It's not just bloodline...tremper, rainwater, and bell are different strains of albino, and crossing two of them does not make another albino, it makes double hets for both strains. However outcrossing is good for the species as it creates genetic diversity. Every once in a while it is good to bring in unrelated animals to a breeding line. If you're talking bloodlines then you'd have to go with where you are getting them from, you could say tremper bloodline...since he is a big time breeder and does have his own breeding colonies, there's also the Albey lines, Urban Gecko lines....basically most of the big time breeders breed within thier own colonies and don't bring in unrelated specimens too often, and so have generations of geckos with similar bloodlines. If you're starting you're own breeding colony it would be best to mix up the lines a little and get geckos that are as unrelated as possible.
