Finally finished! My ball python rack......

idealreptiles Feb 29, 2004 01:18 PM

I am sore, tired, and ready to pass out, but my rack is done! It holds 10 28qt. sterilite bins, and is heated by 11 inch heat tape (belly and back). The only thing left is to add the trim to the front edges and build a few more.... But not today. This thing is SOLID! It is controled by a basic helix system and an on/off thermostat (safety) The hardest part was getting the heat tape nice and flat against the wood. I pinned it down with a ton of thumb-tacks.
Let me know what you think. It's holding temps great.

You can get them at Target for around $5 each. They are around 23"/ 16" / 6 1/2" . The rack is made of two pieces of 3/4" plywood. You can stack these racks two high and put a sliding shelf in between for cleaning and stuff.
I will be building two of these units, put them next to eachother, and then will put a nice rack on top of them that holds 20 15 qt. tubs. It's going to be sweet! That should hold all those girls.

I stole these designs from some big breeder. I am saving up for your babies next year! So produce a bunch:.

For what it's worth!

You should have used birch plywood and allowed for more air circulation on top of cages. Also grooves on the sides for shelving to fit snug in lieu of screws. A paint job would have been nice using a safe paint such as "milk paint"

But the bottom line is it works for you, and you're happy with it.

Awesome rack system. First one i have seen that i really like and would feel comfortable trying to make myself. What are the dimensionsof the whole rack? And how big of a space is there between shelves? Great job!! Have fun with all your Pythons!!
