Take a look at this tiger,....

BrianSmith Feb 29, 2004 04:25 PM

This is "Purty". She's a 1 1/2 year old female tiger. Due to her color and pattern I call her a "yellow phase, mottled tiger". She is about 10 feet long in this picture (11 now) give or take half a foot (I don't physically measure my snakes as it stresses them). This girl was a problem feeder for a while but recently
(mid Jan) took to rabbits with a relish and is currently pounding a 6 pound rabbit each week. Prior to this she was accepting a single jumbo rat per week. This picture was taken in January. She is twice that weight and girth now and is growing INCREDIBLY fast. I'll get an up to date pic up soon if anyone wants to see what she looks like in her "post Karen Carpenter" state. I plan to breed her either late this year with a choice super tiger male,.. or early next year with an albino tiger male.

how did you get it to switch to rabbits? i tried a rabbit on my retic and it won't take it.

Well,.... like all my finicky pythons I would simply trick her by scenting the rabbits by rubbing rat saliva on the rabbit's nose. This works every time. But retics will generally switch over to rabbits when they decide they want to. Most, if not all eventually do (in my experience) and when they do it is like they have an all new hunger. Once mine prefer rabbits it's like they become optimal eating machines. Either trick yours or just give it time. It usually takes a year or two for them to do it on their own. In my opinion live rabbits placed in the cage may frighten them and can delay this.

That is absolutely one of the best tigers I have ever seen. Where did she come from??

Bob Clark produced her. (I think). At least, I bought her from him, so I'd like to think she was produced there. I know that sometimes he sells other peoples snakes. She came to me without a working tongue, so he let me have her for 150 instead of 250. It took me a few months to teach her how to get her food without too much trouble, but I still have to make sure that she grabs it by the nose to this day. Otherwise, if she has it by another part of the body, once she releases it she can't find the nose. She turned out so beautiful that I don't mind any of that much, plus she is a pet that we love. It's kind of funny because she was not an attractive tiger when she was a baby. I guess Bob just has an eye for those that will bloom. She is actually not my best looking yellow mottled. I have another female that looks even better, and yellower with a more mottled pattern, but she is blue right now. I'll get some pictures up as soon as she sheds.
