Does anyone clip their tortoise's nails? My golden Greeks seem to be developing longer than "comfortable" nails and I am considering clipping them. They are kept on sand and are healthly otherwise.
Thanks,
John

Have any pics. Greeks sometimes have longer nails. If you are really concerned, you could put some rough rock in the enclosure, to climb or walk over. I have clipped box turtle nails, but that was after they were given to me after many years of improper care.
My Greeks/Hermanns are outside, with plenty of harder surfaces to keep there nails shorter.

I had to clip my Russians toenails when he arrived. They were so long that he had problems walking. To me, they are just like cats and dogs. As long as you do not clip them to far that you cut the quik you should be just fine.
This is easily solved. Put 3-4 medium sized rocks in their pen. Both Greeks and Russians (we have both) love crawling over them and if files down their nails. Works wonders for ours. Don't cut Russian nails. Next to sulcata's they are the tortoise worlds most industrious diggers. Like a 5-6 inch live backhoe with no Off switch.
