Corn Snake And Quail Eggs

GregBraidE Feb 29, 2004 09:11 PM

I read that Quail Eggs are very nutritious for a corn snake to eat...so I bought like 10 at the corner store (publix) my questions are 1) are these still healthy for the snake to eat because they were treated for humans and 2) how do u feed the snake it? Do you just put it in the feeding area or do u have to hard boil it or what, because there is currently no source of heat in the eggs so the snake doesn't go after it. Thanks in advance for all the help. -Greg

I have heard that feeding your snakes eggs can result in some messy, stinky stool.
I know that some ratsnakes (including corns) will raid birds' nests in the wild. There, you can assume that the eggs are slightly warm, but certainly not hard-boiled. They may even have a nearly developed chick inside.
There's a good chance that your snake won't touch it, and it really is probably not that big a deal one way or the other.
If you want to "mix it up" once in awhile, consider baby chicks.
But an all rodent diet will really work out just fine. Duffy
