Weird object in tank

ew1074 Mar 01, 2004 12:59 AM

I fount a long skinny white thing in my leos tank. Its was about twice or three times the size of a stool, all white, and very sticky. As a matter of fact, it was stuck to the side of the humid hide. It was the second time i had found one in there. The first time i was concerned. I cleaned it out and completely forgot about it. Then i found another about 3 months later. Both times it was found in the restroom area, but it is way to big to be a stool and it is completely solid. It didnt happen until i bought my albino about 6 months ago. It was the last gecko that i put in there. Is this something to be concerned about? Is one of my geckos sick? Any help is appreciated. Thanks alot!!

When leopard geckos become sexually mature, sometimes they lay...and they lay in the humid hide to keep the eggs from drying out.

Do you have just one leo or is it possible that egg is fertile?

Someone posted a picture of something they found in their leo tank...which appears to be a pile of egg material.

No, its not an egg. The best way i can explain it is the same shape as a stool except a little longer and a little fatter. It doesnt look like the pile of egg material, i wish i would've taken a picture of it but i didnt think about that. If all eggs laid are like the ones i've seen in pics and in incubators, than no its definately not an egg. Are eggs really sticky? Looked kind of like styrophome.

I just realized how funny that sounds and how stupid i must look. My subject said "Weird object in tank". ANd then the reply subject said "It sounds like an egg" I really hope i would recognize an egg, heh. Its possible though. If it is an egg, it would have to be a dried out, shrivled, shrunken egg. I guess thats possible. But i still cant figure out why it would be really sticky. When i picked it up with a paper towel, i tried to open up the paper towel to look at it more closely and the towel ripped. Thats how sticky it is, plus it was stuck to the side of the humid hide.

Well, Crystal's been handling all the eggs here, so I haven't had the opportunity to be tortured by where the females lay them, but, from what I understand, they are sticky - because they tend to stick to things. Someone once had a leo lay it on the bottom of her laying hide, and they had to go to extreme trouble to get them UNstuck!

Is there anyway to get a photo of it? Or, did it look anything like that thing in the other post?

Has it hardened up at all?
