worried about nothing

IcedGoddess Mar 01, 2004 10:53 AM

I'm only a tiny bit worried, and it's probably only my impatience talking. But Ruby has been clear a couple days now, and it FAT with eggs. She's due to shed any day here, and I have been guessing she'd lay them around march 8th (the full moon) Yesterday was dinner day, and she didn't eat! This is the first time EVER that she hasn't eaten. She sort of checked it out, then went into her nest box and has been in there ever since. She's never not eaten. Even completely blue she eats, and last year she ate even after her pre-lay shed.

I'm jumping the gun here right? not eating at this time is normal right? I feel like an over-protective mom here! LOL I can't help but worry about her, she's my "favorite"

Nothin to worry about.
Parents are supposed to worry over nothing. We just dont have pediatricians to call at 1 in the morning over it!

You'd think I'd know not to be so paranoid over my "kids" lol

her shed. But they do like to make a liar out of me sometimes, so be ready at any time.

That's what she did last year. But then again, she never refused a meal last year either. I wouldn't be worried if she would have just eaten! lol Can't say I blame her for not eating though, she's quite a bit bigger than last year I think.

Do your females tend stop eating before they lay?
She had 15 last year, so who knows, maybe she's got a monster clutch this year
I sort of doubt that though, since daddy was a first timer this year.

Most healthy females will lay more eggs in their 2nd and 3rd years than their 1st year, in my experience.

Whew! I think I'm more excited about the babies this year than I was last year! lol, and I thought I was bad last year. But then again, I knew I'd probably get normals last year....This I get anery's and probably snows

I know my snow quit eating two weeks before she laid.
I wasn't too worried about it.
I figured she was just too full of eggs to worry about eating.
She ate the day after laying and hasn't looked back since.

That was my first thought. But then I went into "mom-mode" and started to worry about her...lol She's so fat, I can't wait to see how many eggs are in there, I'm betting close to 20
