Bleeding Collared noses from hitting screen

jakeleolizard Mar 01, 2004 11:55 AM

Hey all,

Well, Dexter's nose is in really bad shape... over the weekend he rubbed it more raw and all the scales are gone from his lip to between his nostrils... it is all raw bloody nose...

So, I spent awhile last night cutting out a peice of screen that is the exact same size as my lid and then glued it under the regular screen... so it is now a barrier between the metal screen and Dexter... the screen I put on is nylon so a lot softer...

I then cut out a whole in the nylon screen a little bigger than the basking light... this will still allow for direct basking from the basking lamp and it won't burn or melt the nylon screen... I tested it... actually it is fiberglass coated with nylon... And then I cut out another smaller hole for my other UVAB light... but didn't cut out a spot for my long tube flourescent light.

I wanted to protect as much of the screen as possible, but just had to cut out the two areas... hopefully, he won't jump up to those that often....

I did this before but not a elaborate and it began to get a little better... so will see if this helps... I GOTTA do something.... I wish I had a digital camera to show you his nose... poor guy.

Laterrrrrr.

I would either get a deeper tank, or increase the bulb wattage, and decrease the height of his basking rocks...in other words, make it so he cannot make it to the top.

In the meantime, treat the nose with some Neosporin or Bacitracin (triple antiobiotic ointment).
