Ohhh that's not good, sounds like a serious infection or circulation blockage to teh tail. Has he shed recently? Is there any unshed skin on his tail? I would give him a soak to loosen any unshed skin. If there isn't any evidence of unshed skin take him to a vet asap to determine why his tail is turning black (ie dying)

Usual questions,
Tank temps, supplements, UVB, feeding schedule, etc...

Did he sustain any injury to his tail recently - could something have fallen on it? Whatever it sounds like the vet is the best place to go.
