Beardie not doing his buisiness

CrittersMailToo Mar 01, 2004 01:53 PM

Merlin isn't pooping. The last time he went was last week on thursday in his water bowl. We stoped feeding him insects ( because he's not going to the bath room) but still giving him greens, and hes eating them. We've checked all over the -tank which is big- but we still can't find any poop or pee. Could it be possible that hes burying it?

What goes in one end needs to come out the other. As Beardies get older they don’t poop as often. Adults may only poop several times a week. You can give him a warm bath to help him go. It will relax him. If you see him straining or twitching his back legs or problems walking, he may be impacted. If a warm bath does not work, go to a vet fast as impaction can kill your Beardie in a short time.

Hi Bennett,
Thanks a bunch, that worked. He did actually go Friday (my son was panicky and had the day wrong), but still needed to go more, obviously. We just got him Thursday, so that is the 3rd time since then. We'll be sure to do the bath everyday for a while and keep an eye on it. In retrospect, the only time he has gone is in the water; both times previously he went in his waterbowl in the tank.

Thanks again,
Denise
