Dragon Eyesight.

Giantrobo Mar 01, 2004 02:16 PM

Does anyone know how well they see? Do they see colors? How far can they see? What about contrasts? They seem to do well with those. They also seem to do well with movement. So does that mean being still makes an object less visible to them? i.e. a cricket standing still.

Anyone know anything about Dragon vision?

they see pretty well. They can see colors. And they can see far away. My male can see 1 cricket from across the room and go running to it. When it comes to seeing things move and stand still....well it depends on the lighting. If the lighting is dark a little it is hard for them to see a cricket standing still. In the light and a cricket is standing still they should spot it right away. Also when abjects move it attracts them. In bad lighting and something moves, usually they go after it.

I'm fairly sure they can see color (at least to some extent). I would mix in pellets with his greens in the morning, and when I got home from work almost everyday I would find a bowl full of green pellets. I know there's a couple other people on here that will tell you their dragons wouldn't eat a certain color pellet also.

HAH!

Funny you should say that! I know when I hand feed my Dragon(s) pellets, they seem to go for the GREEN ones in my hand readily. But when I present a yellow pellet(rep cal adult BD pellets) they, or at least one tends to stop eating. I figured it was the yellow color. But they'll still take them(yellow) eventually.

Now, when I feed them Can o Crickets with my feeding tongs, they go after the bright yellow tongs almost as many times as the fat cricket beings presented. Sometimes they go right around the cricket and grab the tongs. I figured the bright yellow plastic had something to do with it. This is also why I wondered about Dragon eyesight.

Often just putting the tongs in the tank will get them jumping up with tongues stuck out.

I'm sure dragons have some sense of colour. I use a 16oz plastic party cup to "shake and bake" the crickets. If I wave the yellow cup I always use he goes crazy, just seeing me reach for it is enough. If I use the red one, no interest.

My big guy loves red. It started with raspberries, and has carried over to the red Rep-Cal pellets which he will eat first out of his bowl, and even red banners that he sees on the computer screen and licks. He doesn't respond that with with any other colors.

He also notices when I look at him from across the room, and will perk up his head and look straight back at me. He can see me coming with the cricket box a mile away.
