Argentine Red Tegu Problems

oghockey27 Feb 09, 2003 07:28 PM

I have a 2 1/2 year old red tegu that I've had since he was 2 months old. For the past month or so, he hasn't been eating well or acting normal. He regurgitates even the small rats. He also seems to eat only enough to survive, whether it's rats or fruits. He never had these problems before( he's always been a typical tegu). The only thing he seems to eat alot of are hard-boiled eggs, but I'm afraid to feed him too many. He is still completely tame but he seems to get alot more restless now when I handle him. Could he be trying to hibernate, or is he now sexually mature & looking for a mate, or could he be sick? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

P.S. I also have an Argentine B/W Tegu that has always been treated the exact same way and he has no problems at all.

If he is regurgitating you may want to take him in for a fecal exam. He could have some parasites that need treatment. Or the temps might not be high enough in his enclosure.
