Switching from Mice to Rats

Hoopy Jun 10, 2003 11:12 AM

Hello all,

I have 7 ball pythons and have been working on switching them to rats instead of mice. I have switched 5 of them over completely, but the last 2 (albino male ball python, het. albino male ball python) will not take rats. They do not even seem to recognize them as food. I have tried all different sizes from pinkies to mediums. I have tried live rats once a week and have had no success. I have tried feeding them in there enclosures and in dark tubs outside of there enclosures, at night and during the day. DO you guys have any suggestions?? Any would be apprecieated.

Either let them get hungry enough where they'll take whatever you give them, or give them mice.

Well I saw this on a short doc. of David and Tracy Barker they said that sometimes the snakes dont want to eat so what they did is dipped the rat into a can of chicken broth uncooked of course and she said they loved it you could try i never had to do it but its the Barkers they are never wrong hehe. If you want you can email them I dont know if they still do this. The video was made way back when they first produced the super tigers but I'm sure they still do it. Good luck with the snakes.
