San Diego and Vegas for spring break

bhmorrill Mar 01, 2004 06:22 PM

I will be heading to San Diego and Las Vegas for spring break next week (Mar 7-11) and would love to get any suggestions as to good roads to cruise so that I can see some snakes (Crotalids especially). Also, I am also interested in buying a nice looking female jungle carpet python, or a male amazon tree boa. Any information any of you can give me would be great, if not over the forum then atleast shoot me an email.

Thanks,
Ben

that area tends to stay cold later that the coastal areas and the sonoran desert region. You might see some daytime basking. I live in Flag Az. but am employed in Las Vegas and drive there and back each night(and have been doing so for the last ten years). I don't start seeing snakes on the roads at night till June, late May at best. I hear the San Diego area is good for seeing helleri right now.

Yep, San Diego has been good since February. I've gone hiking three times since Feb 13 and Seen two Helleri, and one Ruber although the Ruber I looked for. The other two were right on the trail, and within 15 minutes of each other. I will post some pics later. They are a pretty orange phase, but no doubt Helleri. They lack the distinct tail markings ("coontails" of the Rubers.

That sounds nice! I hope I am that lucky! Thanks for the info, and I will be watching for pics!

Wow! already? I would've thought it was still a bit cold here for them. I haven't seen anything yet, but then I haven't been looking very hard. I'm planning on going hiking in the burnt-out area this weekend. I doubt I'll find anything substantial, but one can hope!

I'm just happy they opened it back up - a few days after the Cedar Fire, I went hiking around the burn area, and while I was looking under a rock to see who might still be home, I heard someone clear his throat.

"What'cha doing out here, boy?" (I'm 37!) Oh, hello there, Mister Sheriff, Sir. Just looking to see if any critters survived the fires. "This is a restricted area, you know." Nossir, I did - not - know - that. "You're also not supposed to be collecting animals without a fishing license." Well..... you don't *need* one for rattlers, but (big flourish) here's my fishing license! But I'm not collecting, just looking. (Sound of one caught-off-guard sheriff scrutinizing fishing license) "Oh, well. Hmph. OK, but stay outta here until they take the signs down." Yessir, Mister Sheriff, Sir!

Sorry guys, I have been trying to upload the pictures of the Orange Southern but everytime I try to upload it says there is an error. I am going to photo gallery, selecting the right categories, filling out the info, but everytime it finishes downloading it says there is an error. Am I doing everything right? Either way I will keep trying.
