Just wanted to comment, that one month ago I got in my two new BTs, (1 healthy, 1 sick: didnt pay for the sick one) the healthy one was 7-8inches when I got him, and 1 month later is now 17inches. he is shedding around 2 times a week, and an absolute eating machine. Today, he ate 3 fuzzes, 1 hopper, 2 dozen Lg. Crickets, and 6 superworms. And he is 4x the weight he was when i got him. The sick one is getting better everyday. Hand-feeding him waxworms and mealworms. He spits crickets back up if I put them in his mouth. He still is not eating on his own, but acknowledges food when he sees it.
I'll get some pics soon.

This little baby was 16 inches at 2 months old, she is a BT/WT/WT cross, at a year old she was 5ft long and 15lbs, at 2 years old she was and is over 6ft long and 25lbs. Her average growth was 1.5-3 inches a week in her first year of life, suposedly some males can grow bigger and faster than that, hmm, Id really like to see that happen.

lol,if it grew any faster you would most definately be able to literally watch it grow right in front of your eyes! Now that would be something to see eh?

that is a great looking monitor,i never knew albigularis had such a rapid growth rate,as adults do you guys feed them more then once or twice a week?

SHvar Mar 02, 2004 10:30 AM

Their first year or once every 2 days if older or appetite would allow for. If you set a monitor up correctly it can burn food fast, very fast, therefore when they are growing they need to eat alot. Between 27-40 some inches almost daily, ate between 3-9 adult mice or that equivalent in other foods. Feeding a monitor once a week as a young growing animal is like feeding a growing human child a small meal once a day, they wont grow much at all. Monitors are sometimes fed like snakes by petstore who also keep their tempsway down to save money on feeders etc, then they sell you on the idea that they eat that way all of the time. All of my monitors fluctuate what they eat by the temps and time of year. Sobek has beeen down to 1 large rat a week sometimes a mouse or so in between, but shes done the majority of her growth already. This winter she ate 1 large rat once every 3 weeks on a few occaisions. You have to guage the individual not the species and by what its environment offers it to be able to do. Individuals make a difference in how much they will eat but first their husbandry must be the same to compare them.
Albigs and argus are like bottomless pits when they are fed.

Sobek between 27-40 inches ate daily or almost daily, she ate between 3-9 adult mice or that equivalent in other foods every day. This can change with individuals but mainly with husbandry.
