Breeding Material

I was wondering what is the best breeding material for western painted turtles. I heard sand or vermiculite would work, but is there a best one.

Do you mean whats the best laying substrate, or the best incubating substrate? Personally, I would use a mix of sand and peat for laying, and vermiculite for incubating.

Where would be a good place to get vermiculite?
