2 questions please help

tedster82 Mar 02, 2004 02:41 AM

Hello its been almost two months now since my leo hasn't eaten. Ive consistently been feeding him mealworms, but i figured hes probably sick of it so i changed to crickets.

My first question is he's too slow to catch the crickets and the crickets keep hiding in all sorts of places so what should i do? Should i change back to meal worms, or should i take the water tank out and the housing and the tree branch?

Second questoin is, i also find him rubbing against certain things in the tank but he's not shedding yet becuase he just did less than a week ago. Why is this?
Thank you in advance

Is he chasing the crickets? If so, pinch off the hind legs at the knees. If he has no feeding response at all then it's time for a vet visit. Is his tail skinny?

he's marking his territory. I have males that will spend all day roaming around the cage rubbing their bottoms on the floor, and their backs on the hides and such. Its perfectly normal.
As for the crickets, I agree, you'll have to pick off some of their legs.
Good luck

Actually what i've done, and this is kinda cruel but it prevents them from escaping. I take a spoon and bascially semi-decapitate the crickets, right where the head and body join just stab them. Enough that they twitch(sorry its gross) so they geckos will notice them but not enough that they can really run about.
Good luck

Lol, when we're talking about an animal that swallows it's food whole or head first I doubt decapitation's all that much to be grossed out over.

ahhah you're right, just worried ppl here seem VERY sensitive to animal cruelity.

Hi, thanks for all of your replies. He still hasnt eaten, and all the crickets have died. He seems really really lazy and would never chase down a cricket if his life depended on it. His tail is getting really skinny now too. His bowel movement on the other hand is good. he takes dumps like there's no other. but i still cant get him to eat. should i take him to the vet anyway?
