Well it looks like last month was not a good one for little turtles. After having TurtleDude for 6 months, we came home last Friday night to find him sitting on a rock, dead.

His shell was a little soft, probably from not getting out of the water enough, so I added a piece of cuttle bone. I don't know if he gorged himself on it or maybe choked on it. It could have been anything I guess. It's just sad and disappointing that we put all that working into having him.

Worst of all is the sad look in my 10 year olds eye as he held his dead little friend. I let him know that it wasn't his fault and we gave him the best possible life we thought we could. Then we buried him in the backyard and placed his climbing rock on top.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Turtles can be tough to figure out sometimes....their body is a tight little container that makes it hard to know if anything is wrong.

When you and your son are both ready, consider trying again. Not only to make use of the equipment and set up that you put together, but to give it another go at the joy of raising turtles.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I'm sure it's nothing you did or didn't do, sometimes the little guys just aren't meant to make it.
