* About websites on the forums

phwyvern Mar 02, 2004 09:28 AM

Advertising and promoting websites:

Advertising, except for events, is not allowed in the discussion forums, photo galleries, or chat rooms. This includes websites, newsletters, products, etc. Advertising belongs in the classifieds area.

All posts that basically say "Look at my website" or "Look at this website" will be removed.

A pattern of regularly recommending a specific company, whether your company or someone else's, may be taken into consideration when evaluating if a pattern of commercial activity is present.

If a user has a pattern of responding to messages with directions to a particular website or domain that begins to look like an attempt to thwart this rule, the overall pattern will be taken into consideration when determining if it is advertising/promotion or not.

We do allow our users to post the URLs of websites, as long as it's part of a contribution to the overall discussion, but not simply as a method of promotion of the website, on their own behalf or on behalf of someone else. In other words if a person unexpectedly posts a message telling people about a website that is unsolicited and not part of an ongoing conversation it typically is considered to be a 'look at my/this website' advertisement/promotion.

You may include a link to your website in your SIGNATURE, even if it is a commercial website. You may also include a SMALL logo image for your business as part of your signature. However, you may not include specific items for sale, prices, advertising slogans, or any other text or images that would be considered commercial. Please keep in mind that 'small logo' means small logo - not big, not huge, not gigantic. We are talking about a reasonable line of 170x50 pixels (or smaller).

Breeders and dealers pay to advertise and/or sponsor their sites and animals and products on kingsnake.com and it is not fair to them or anyone else that others should try to skirt the rules in the attempt to get a free ride by abusing the discussion forums in a manner they were not intended for. If someone truly wishes to promote their business and/or website then perhaps consider purchasing advertising space as others have done.

looking for input from people.....asking if things should be changed or added.

their want to come to others who have a perspective away from the situation to be able and figure out any problems or gain suggestions. most of the people that post their websites don't even sell stuff!!!!! they only have herp info. i severly think you guys should allow people to post their new websites as long as it's for informational purposes.

just my thoughts

That's all well and good but even that is highly abused by a lot of folks - it matters not that they sell anything or just provide information. People more often than not post on these forums and ask others to 'check out' their site for the simple purpose of generating traffic to it. There have been folks who went to extreme lengths to skirt the rules trying to redirect users from this site to theirs for the sole purpose of boosting traffic to their websites.

There is a very big difference between solicited and unsolicited requests in regards to websites. In order to keep things fair and easy for everyone we do not allow blatant unsolicited 'look at/check my/this website' type posts that have nothing to do with an ongoing conversation - that is considered a form of advertising as they are promoting their website or a website on behalf of someone else.

If people want constructive input on the design and layout and content of their website then they need to be asking people for that information directly from their website - not here. That way anyone who happens to visit that site on their own and sees their 'what do you think' promo can choose to send them an email or whatever and provide input to that person from that site.

Was this sparked because of my post? I'm simply trying to figure out what the heck morph my new beardie is. I'm not "advertising" anyone. It's simply easier to post a link to where I have the whole story written out with pics then to try and figure out how to post all those pics here and not be able to cause they aren't loaded into your system. I don't want to load them into your system cause it's a pain in the butt. It's easier the way I did it and posted a link. Jezzz, didn't mean to offend anyone by trying to figure out what the heck morph my beardie is. Thought this was a place to get help in that type of area. go figure. Instead, my post get's deleted. so much for being a helpful place.

It wasn't you personally. Some people have and continue to over step the boundries set by Kingsnake and once someone draws attention to a certain post, they come and check out several others along with it. They then end up removing more than one and any they see which basically says "go to my site and read it" or "go to my site to see the pictures" etc.

We do try to be helpful and friendly, but sometimes you can't argue with TOS lol

I know you try to be helpful and friendly. Which is why I continue to post here. It just agravates me to know end that my post, looking for help in IDing my beardie's morph was delete. I'm not telling anyone to check anything out except the message about my beardie cause it's so annoying trying to post pics here. And it would be impossible for you guys to guess what he is without pics. And the reasoning behind it is also annoying. That's like saying "Cause you look at King Snake Forums, You aren't allowd to look anywhere else". It's stupid! And It annoys me! I mean, come on, get a grip! If people like it here, they'll stay weather they see someone elses site or not. And If they don't want people posting links, then they should make it easier to post pics here. Maybe direct downloads (which is what the other place offers and is what I use), or something similar. Otherwise, you're gonna have people post links. Period. But, since they went and deleted my harmless post, I'll repost with describing his coloring. Hopefully they won't delete that one too.

....finding it is the hard part! I didn't notice this until a few months ago, and I've been posting on these forums for years!

When you post a message, there is a link at the bottom right of the window that is called "Tools and Toys." In there it will show you the codes for posting smileys, links, images, and lots more. They are a variation of HTML. It's way better than uploading the picture using the Image URL box at the bottom, cuz you can post unlimited pictures in one post this way.

So try that out next time. It's a shame your post was deleted. Sometimes in the efforts to rid the forums of the TOS violaters, innocents get caught in the crossfire.
