not OK for crix to eat citrus?

lele Mar 02, 2004 09:54 AM

someone on another forum said not to feed citrus fruits to crix b/c it is a laxative to them and they dehydrate. I have not heard this before and am wondering what any of you know or think about this? I feed oranges to my crix often (of course with other stuff as well) but there have been times when that was thier misture source fo a few days, I sort of rotate.

thoughts? evidence? article?

Hmm,

I've been using oranges as a source of moisture for my crix for years...no problems that I could see. But, I keep crix in fairly small numbers and can keep better track of their condition.

yes, it was news to me. I only keep one or two hundred at a time and i haven't attributed any loss to this in particular. it was on a gecko forum (not KS) and as I was perusing the posts I came across it and inquired...I'll be interestd to see if any one else here has heard this.

It's perfectly fine to keep an orange slice in with the crix for moisture. But it shouldn't your main gutloading item. Invest in a premium gutload such as the one sold by www.herpnutrition.com or make your own from the recipe in the insect section of www.adcham.com. But unless you've got lots of herps, that's a lot of trouble and not necessarily cheaper.

yup, they get a good selection and I have been making my own gutload taken from both AdCham and Reptayls - my own secret recipe - haha!

So I guess the citrus fruit thing is not true...didn;t really see how it could be, but you never know
