Thinking of Updating (Mick's) Cornsnake Progeny Predictor

Mick Mar 02, 2004 10:03 AM

I posted this message on 'the other' board, but thought I'd post it here too. Don't really know who hangs out where anymore...
------------------------------------
I get a lot of requests to update my program, and I see some folks are trying to do it for me, 'borrowing' the look and feel for their own programs. Anyway, most of the requests are to add 'morphs' (like Okeetee or 'Sunglow' or Miami) that can't be quantitatively predicted.

But what about the new hypo genes? I apologize for being out of the loop for a while, but could someone with direct experience with these hypo genes ("B" and "C"?) define what exactly is known about them? And if they've been combined with other genes, what did the result look like and what did the breeder name the result?

I also get a lot of requests for Bloodred... to the point that I'm considering adding it as a user configurable option... i.e. treat it a simple recessive if you want, or ignore it (i.e. program won't show it). Good idea or dangerous?

So I'm open to ideas, but need 'the facts' for any new genes added. Thanks.

Regards,
Mick

I would like to see blood red in there, but it's a pretty weird one, where they can look like it but not be...Unless you could somehow make the results be "outcrossed br's" and make it so a pair of outcrosses would result in a %age of br's. Even that sounds like a debate issue But I would like to see it in there, somehow.

I know what you mean about the "borrowed" look, and I'm pretty sure there was no intentional toe squishing It is very similar, in look and feel, but I doubt it was done for any reason other than his own enjoyment and to help other corn nuts

I assume your talking about Marcel's new program. I like both and a little choice is always healthy, but thats just me. If I remember correctly, Marcel's program doesn't have zig zag/aztec.

As for the different types of hypos...I tend to think they're as variable as the different forms of amel. Will you include red candy canes vs. orange candy canes vs. sunglows vs. reverse okeetee, etc etc WHO KNOWS...while there are diff genetics involved w/each hypo...there will be difficulty to identify them in reality in an actual clutch. I personally like the program the way it is but thats me...if anything, a punnett square would be kinda neat like the one in Marcel's but I am not sure if his is accurate, although I am sure it is, i'd probably want to do a square myself anyway...just thinking out loud

Mick I hope you do and its in an eaiser way to open it.
I have downloaded it two or three times on different computers even and have yet to be able to open it and use it. I can get to the descriptions of the different corns but not been able to open the predictor. If I could get a copy ready to operate on a disk I would be more than happy to pay for it.

I do not mean it is in any way your fault, its mine,I just do not have enough skill on the computer to use it the way it is.

thanks, Harvey hricker@shawneelink.net
