Gecko Licking Humid Hide

jsc230 Mar 02, 2004 10:16 AM

Hello,

I got my gecko Saturday. This morning I noticed that he was licking the moist paper towels in his humid hide. So I figured he must not be able to reach his water dish so, I added a step to make it easier for him to step up to it.

I don't know why he couldn't reach the water because he managed to find a way on top of the 4-5" high gladware container (by first climbing onto his log hide). The water dish is only 1/2-3/4" high.

Anybody know what that strange behavior means?

Thanks for any help.

My humid hide is a gladware container with moist paper towels in it. Also, I read if the humidity is too high it might cause respitory problems. He spends several hours a day in his humid hid, will he regulate himself and not get sick?

HI

He will be fine, and as for the water dish, maybe he couldn't see over the top of it or just didn't now where it was. Maybe he hadn't explored his tank that far yet.

Just give him time to settle in, and you can show him his water dish and let him see the water in it.
