Not eating

JacksonsChamKeep Mar 02, 2004 10:55 AM

I have had this chameleon for about 3 weeks and he has been eating every day. All of a sudden he has not eaten in two days. He still looks healthy and moves around fine. Should I be worried

I am a new chameleon owner and know exactly what your going thru- I believe that the problem is that if we dont see it happen, we tend to assume that it DIDNT happen- I go a few days without SEEING my baby vields eat,and then notice them a little fatter and plenty of lizard crap on the floor of the cage- I would worry if he stops dropping dueces- also i hrdly ever see them drink, yet provide them with a constant source of running water and frequent mistings- and no problems or signs of dehydration have showed yet so anyway how do you know that he hasnt eaten when your not around?

what kind of chameleon is it? Does it have the proper cage set-up?Has he been drinking? What are you feeding him? He might have gotten board with the same food, try feeding him something else.

If this is an adult you don't need to feed every day. He may be "full" and losing appetite. Not eating for 1-2 days is not a problem as long as he's drinking, active, etc. Back off how much you are feeding (most of us overfeed our chams anyway), give his system a break, and offer one or two "snacks" for a day or so. Also, chams love flies and anything green.

Some other animals besides chameleons stop eating for a couple days before shedding, i have heard of some chameleons doing this. It might be that.
Otherwise, listen to the other replies and make sure he hasn't got any symptoms of anything bad.
