It could be bacterial, or environmental, or even something like Rhabdiform lungworms. You don't know how to fix it until you can pin down what's causing it.
Is there any nasal discharge? Mouth breathing? What are your temps and relative humidity inside the cage? What are you using for substrate?
I will second this last comment, you need to figure out what is causing the repiratory signs...that usually includes a complete re-evaluation of the husbandry, some fecal tests to look for parasites and ideally a culture of the secretions coming out of the trachea to identify the bacteria then select the appropriate antibiotic. One other thing, sometimes they have some mild wheezes when they are about to shed, make sure it is not that before you go the whole nine yards...(they are mild, close to a shed, there should not be any secretions coming from the trachea/mouth or nostrils and they disappear immediately after shed)
In the mean time, slightly increasing the temperature (a couple of degrees but your snake should still have the opportunity to cool off in one side of the cage) and increasing the humidity may help with very mild infections...Don't let things go out of hand...
Looks like it is going into shed. I raised the temps a few degrees. The substrat is mulch and humidity is just right. No excess mucus or anything. I'll see how it goes from here. Thanks for the info,
John
