To sell or not to sell, that is the question.... (2.0 het albino ball pythons)

BallHeaded Mar 02, 2004 01:56 PM

Hi,

I bought 2.2 het albino ball pythons recently and they're in the 200 gram area. I've been told that I should consider selling the het males, wait a year or two and then buy a 1.0 albino ball python. He would be ready to breed the females in a year or so of his purchase.

What do you think, should I sell the hets now and use that money to go towards the purchase of a 1.0 albino ball python or keep them?

thanks

Whatever you do you should keep at least 1 female. You could raise up the males and breed them to normals next season and produce P hets. although they really aren't worth much (maybe $250-$275 a pair). Really it depends on how much $ you have to spend on what to do.

well if it were me & i already had the hets I'd probably stay were i am. with two sets of het albino you could have a good amount of albinos without actually paying for one. I have a pair of albino hets & they over all cost me money but it still cost me less than getting an albino. but they do seem to be getting cheaper this year. if i was going to sell anything i would maybe get rid of one male & put that money towards a pastel or something. Also the good thing about keeping them is get them big then you can sell them for more money once the breeding rush comes around. You may notice it by the classifieds. between august to november & so on you'll see classifieds pleading for animals ready to breed that year. So I would say feed them well & see where you are with them by the summer & if seems better to get an albino just get rid of them & grab yourself that albino. also the fact that i spent all that money on hets I am not moving them until they give me an albino..lol they bred but i'm not sure she's gravid, maybe a little underweight but it's all good if not there's next year

I believe that you will be in the best position to choose the option that will result in your producing albinos sooner than otherwise.

The het albino market demand will drop well before the albino market does. You will find it oh so much easier to sell an albino vs. hets (especially "possible hets".

I say do what you have to do to purchase an albino male as soon as possible.

... that is, choose the option that will result in the most albinos produced within the shortest period of time (in other words, get you hands on an albino male as soon as you can).
